J. Howell Tiller is internationally recognized as a leader in his field of cosmetic surgery. As an invited speaker/instructor at local, national, and international surgical conferences he has shared his experiences with colleagues across the world and, in turn, has learned from them. Most importantly, however, for almost a quarter of a century Dr. Tiller has sought to provide to his patients the highest levels of surgical care and personal attention. Dr. Tiller and his staff are exceedingly attuned to the fact that the choice to have cosmetic surgery is a very important decision and we treat that decision with the utmost respect and seriousness.
Dr. Tiller began his cosmetic surgical career as a staff Plastic Surgeon at the National Naval Medical Center outside of Washington, D.C. While on duty there for three years he had the immense privilege of serving active duty and retired members of our nation's Armed Services primarily, of course, the United States Navy. Not only did those years provide tremendous surgical experience for Dr. Tiller but it also allowed him to experience the pride, the sacrifice, and the hard work that service members and their families devote in service to their country. During his tenure at Bethesda Dr. Tiller had the wonderful opportunity to serve as a surgeon to then-President Ronald Reagan. Dr. Tiller left active duty with the U.S. Navy with the rank of Commander in 1988 and stayed in Washington, D.C., in private practice until 1995 when he relocated to his home state of Florida.
Prior to leaving Washington he had been Director of Watergate Cosmetic Surgery for seven years. Since 1995 his practice has been known as South Beach Cosmetic Surgery Center. The consultation/business office is at 1674 Meridian Avenue and the surgical center is immediately adjacent. Dr. Tiller's surgical facility offers his patients the utmost privacy and highest level of medical care. The surgical facility is accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities, Inc. which is recognized as the "gold standard" in the inspection and accreditation of out-patient surgical facilities following rigorous standards for patient safety and care. Dr. Tiller also went through training and accreditation to become an Inspector for the AAAASF for which he volunteers to inspect and to help gain accreditation for the facilities of his Board-certified colleagues.
Dr. Tiller's is a pioneer in the development of muscle augmentation procedures using solid silicone implants. He has developed new techniques and implants for bicep, tricep, pectoral, abdominal, buttock and calf augmentations for both men and women. A particular feature of South Beach Cosmetic Surgery Center is its attention to the male patient. Dr. Tiller long ago recognized that important aesthetic considerations differ men from women and has developed techniques and approaches that recognize those differences.
